I'd make sure that person knows you're interested as you're hugging them.. but be clear clear clear about it. My friend thought he was being Mr. Suave by giving me a squeezing, arm and back rubbing, front to front extended hug and murmuring, "You feel so good, I could just hold you forever."
That was creepy. Do NOT do that.
