have you power cycled the DSL modem? If not, switch it off and on and then try the release/renew option.

Is the NIC enabled? you can disable/enable the NIC itself in the Network connections page.

Otherwise, I'd call tech support for the dsl company - you may need to install/configure software on your PC to get it to get an IP address (PPPoE)...
