network issue.
So i have a brother in law that had a nasty virus, and took over his whole computer. so i end up dumping a new version of an operating system on his computer. clean it all out.
its a dell. so i get everthing reinstalled and then got the drivers from dells website, and all is good.
now to get the internet to update and scan and windows update.
well i had an exclamation point on the NIC, so installed the driver for that.
so now i update the antivirus but i am gettting a limited to no connectivity exclamation point. how did i get that but get the update to my antivirus?
so i do a repair, and it will not let me renew the ip address.
so when i type in: ipconfig/all
all i get is:
the nic name: INTEL (R) PRO/100 VE NETWORK CONNECTION
primary dns suffix was blank.
node type: broadcast
ip routing enabled: yes
wins proxy enabled: yes
autoconfiguration ip address: 169.254.83.208
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
default gateway was blank and i have no dns servers.
I mean i got to update my antivirus but no webpage and it wont let me renew my ip address or let me repair the connection.
I went into the services area and tried to see if anything was disabled or what.
can i get any help?
it looks as if i am not getting any real ip address but one that was given to me by the computer itself.
i dont know what other steps to take.
