I don't take anything for headaches unless the pain is so dehabilitating it prevents me from doing normal tasks - standing, sitting, etc.

When I do take drugs like tylenol, etc.. I take it with a can of soda. Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor like acetaminophen, so it helps to relieve the pressure against my skull that typically causes the headache. You have to be careful, though, because caffeine is also a diuretic, and can worsen a headache if not followed with water.

I can cure just about any headache I get in 15 minutes of sitting still with my eyes closed and minor pressure on my temples from one or both hands. If that fails, I take a tylenol with a soda, followed by 2 glasses of water and another 5 minutes on my temples. I've yet to have a headache not defeated by this strategy.

EDIT: I should note that although my mother's headaches are much more severe, she can usually defeat them in a similar manner. It seems from anecdotal experience that headaches and their ability to be stopped with biofeedback is somewhat genetic. What do (or did) your parents do to stop headaches? It's likely that the same would work for you.
