I was in Beijing in 2000, shortly before the Syndey games. I've never seen air so orange. I went for a run and only made it 2 miles before I had to stop and gasp for breath.
In the running boards that I lurk on, the Americans that are likely to qualify are all saying that they're going to stay outside the city to acclimate. No one is expecting particularly fast times, even though the course isn't going to be that challenging.
