Hey, the old guy may have overheard something or he may actually have ESP. To say that the mundane boring explanation is always right is completely wrong. It is not always right, there are things that are inexplicable. Once again, just to be clear,Occam's Razor states that the simplest explanation
tends to be correct,
but not always.
