So here are some pics of our team's latrine in rural Zambia, summer 2005.
Here is our "stall" (only one in the whole village; ours was very nice compared to most people's). Unfortunately, being about 50m away from my tent, when I had a stomach illness I could not even make it this far in the middle of the night...
And here is the hole, also known as the Bat Cave after dark (hey, can you blame them, there were all kinds of insects for them to eat in there!):
