That might be because of the color used--a lot of bright colors are only semi-permanent, not permanent.
If you want to recolor it yourself, I recommend Fudge's Paintbox dyes--they're semi-permanent, so you'll have to recolor once a month or so. But they last a lot longer than the alternatives (like Manic Panic or Punky Color).
