From what my professional salon person told me, red is one of the hardest colors to get out. If you do go to a professional, make sure that they know what color you used before hand and they should be able to neutralize the red (usually using something with a green base).
However, to go on the cheaper side, I also recommend going with a straight brown. That red will hang on like nobodies business.
