I only entered this thread to post that equation. Technically, however, he'd have to wait four years to date that particular girl, unless what you meant to say is he should date someone 2 years older. In two years, he'd be 24, putting his limit at (24/2+7=) 19, and she'd still only be 18. At 26, his rule of thumb and her age finally converge at 20.
