As a Patriots fan, this is certainly a frustrating and unwanted situation to deal with, however I have found that it really reveals people's true colors. I have not heard one fan or commentator say that what they did was not wrong or illegal, or even that they should not have been punished, which I was grateful for. Of course I have heard the "everybody does it," and the "it's no big deal" phrases a lot lately. I find the "piling on" by some media and fans is hilarious, and where I formerly found it a little laughable that the Pats would continue to trot out the "we don't get any respect" card" I am starting to actually think that pretty much everyone does resent them and their success. This is not the Yankees, remember who outspend god, but just one of 31 teams who just seem to have a system and make better decisions with personell, and better game preparations. I know that people generally find "dynasty's" boring, but this seems to go far beyond that. I feel like the point that most people are failing to mention besides the fact that there are 3 or 4 people on every team giving signals (all "dummy" but 1) is that teams all (or should) change their defensive signals every single game, sometimes at the half. This makes the whole enterprise generally fruitless, and gives rise to a lot of "why the hell would Bill do this when he knew the Pats were so much better than the Jets" talk. I believe that it is one of those situations where he was trying to get one tiny advantage, and even if it was a single play once or twice in the season, he knows that that can be a difference maker.
As for Mangini, he knew that the Pats were taping him, becuse he knew they taped everyone (whether it did any good, it was part of the routine), because HE was part of it when he was a Pat. It is not illogical to believe that he was also taping, since he "learned everything he knew" from BB and attempted to replicate the Pats in NY, to the extent of stealing as many staff members as he could when he left. I am interested in hearing other people's thoughts about this, so thanks hanxter for putting it up.
