The Spy Who Came In From The Cold
okay... Belichek gets caught for snatching signals... gets fined $500K and the team takes it on the chin for a tad less... who the hell gives a shit... there are more "spotters" in NFL stadium roof boxes transmitting signals than there are at any NASCAR race telling Gordon his wife's having a baby with the Michelin man...
but enuff of whether or not it's appropriate or immoralistic or detrimental to the game... ask Selig if this applies... the guy that blew the whistle on Belichek is none other than... than... than... "you are now free to roam about the country..." has just had his bags checked... ![]() yo, Mangini... sux being you... Roger Goodell won't be handling your carry-on as you'll all read about it tomorrow... but seriously, folks, do you really believe all this spying really changes the outcome of a game between two teams when one team couldn't even get it's own hot dog super sized??? there's not one NFL team from the state of NY that will even come close to a playoff game, let alone a game of dodgeball... and that seems like it's the only thing they can do that right... sour grapes... "i'm taking my ball and going home!"?... "i'm gonna tell on you!!!" ![]() yo, Mangini... you should have listened to the first lesson of sportsmanship... you don't bite the hand that feeds you ($$$)... or better yet... can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch... i'm a Raiders fan and we still suck ![]() Last edited by Hanxter; 09-18-2007 at 05:39 PM.. |

Looks like ManGenie has his own problems now--"Ravens coach Brian Billick yesterday accused New York of using an "illegal" ploy to draw Baltimore offside during Sunday's game.
Billick said the Jets' defense shouted out signals to intentionally throw off the Baltimore offense. The coach claimed the tactic led to the three illegal procedure penalties against the Ravens. "They did an outstanding job. I credit the New York Jets. Their defensive line and linebackers did a very, very effective job of illegally simulating the snap count," Billick said. "They did it the whole game long. It needs to be caught." Tackle Adam Terry bolted offside in the first and third quarters. Tight end Quinn Sypniewski jumped in the first quarter. "That's not an excuse by any stretch of the imagination. But it is illegal," Billick said. "Our guys have to deal with it. I don't know how to help my linemen with that because, you're in the heat of battle and you're calling the snap count, and the guy across from you is also calling a snap count - which is illegal." While I'm at it, who released the "spy video" to the media? The commissioners office confiscated it, so where did the media version come from? |

As a Patriots fan, this is certainly a frustrating and unwanted situation to deal with, however I have found that it really reveals people's true colors. I have not heard one fan or commentator say that what they did was not wrong or illegal, or even that they should not have been punished, which I was grateful for. Of course I have heard the "everybody does it," and the "it's no big deal" phrases a lot lately. I find the "piling on" by some media and fans is hilarious, and where I formerly found it a little laughable that the Pats would continue to trot out the "we don't get any respect" card" I am starting to actually think that pretty much everyone does resent them and their success. This is not the Yankees, remember who outspend god, but just one of 31 teams who just seem to have a system and make better decisions with personell, and better game preparations. I know that people generally find "dynasty's" boring, but this seems to go far beyond that. I feel like the point that most people are failing to mention besides the fact that there are 3 or 4 people on every team giving signals (all "dummy" but 1) is that teams all (or should) change their defensive signals every single game, sometimes at the half. This makes the whole enterprise generally fruitless, and gives rise to a lot of "why the hell would Bill do this when he knew the Pats were so much better than the Jets" talk. I believe that it is one of those situations where he was trying to get one tiny advantage, and even if it was a single play once or twice in the season, he knows that that can be a difference maker.
As for Mangini, he knew that the Pats were taping him, becuse he knew they taped everyone (whether it did any good, it was part of the routine), because HE was part of it when he was a Pat. It is not illogical to believe that he was also taping, since he "learned everything he knew" from BB and attempted to replicate the Pats in NY, to the extent of stealing as many staff members as he could when he left. I am interested in hearing other people's thoughts about this, so thanks hanxter for putting it up.
