D/FW is in the middle of nowhere, between the two cities. Have you chosen where you will be staying? The stockyards in Fort Worth can be a hoot on the weekend. Dallas is more cosmopolitan and Jazz Alley had a nice choice of music, at least back in my day.
Will is correct about Austin. My first time there was like being back in the real world.
