The game itself is fun, but the lack of community outside of asia means that it's not particularly worth playing without some friends.

There's a lot of community in SC - it's just decentralized. I have probably 20 friends on there that I hang out with almost daily, we're all part of the same community - the Helms one. There's dozens of communities, clans, etc. out there. You just gotta find one that's fun for you and has people that interest you.
SofaKing - do you ever play UMS? And my guess is 2 years until release. Usually it's 3-4 after announcement, but they are being more ambitious this time, they said.
Redjake - it really is based on experience. I had problems with the campaigns when I was 8. I beat both games in one day when I picked em up again last year. Granted, I knew the particular strats for each map, only a couple gave me any trouble. Also - try reading online a tiny bit to see if there's anything else you can pick up and play melee games against the computer. Once you can beat the computer in a melee game, you're on your way. Try taking on two at once then (if you're in BW, be ready for some early rushes ;p). If you're feeling ambitious, make it a 3v2 with one computer ally, then 4v2, then 5v2, then 3v1, etc.
Eventually, you can make your way onto online - don't worry if you get trounced even after all that prep - you learn much faster online (cause you see what everyone else has strats for).
Obiex - ever play UMS?
Btw my tag on Bnet is Burning_Sky_4H.
