I was hesitant to use Vonage or one of those based on some of the horror stories I heard about their customer service. AT&T which recently bought out SBC where I live offers the service for the same price: $24.95/month billed to my credit card. I switched four months ago and everything work/ed perfectly! My old number moved in three days, I was able to get someone one the phone with questions and everything has been fine since then.
I do agree with analog: I wouldn't have a land line if it wasn't for my wife having a few people she calls during the day for longer periods of time. The $28/month we pay for this is less expensive than bumping up her cell phone minutes.
