If wiring isn't an issue then by all means wire it for maximum bandwidth, security, and fewer surprises. (for that hop) If you're burying or exposing it, consider putting it in conduit or at least get outdoor grade. Home Despot has it. Don't bother with the shielded (STP vs. UTP) stuff. Avoid AC power wiring, motors, etc.
