hmmm, no one replied? well, let me throw my opinion at you...
a backpacking filter would probably work, especially if it's one of the ones that catch giardia, cause i don't think anything in mexico is as bad.
you could, if you have time and you dare, "acclimatize" yourself to the water. drink a little bit, get a little bit sick, introduce the bacteria to your system, and "build up an immunity." i may be wrong, but i think many mexicans have problems with our water, as we have a different set of bacteria in our water that we are used to.
ultimately, i would stick with the water filter. you can also use iodine tablets, but they take time (depending on which type you use) and make the water taste odd.
you can also just stick to soda and beer...
