Bullies are bullies.
There might be a lot of reasons, but I am afraid I have to say that abusive behaviour requires BOTH an element of nuture and nature.
To be the kind of man likely to bully and beat someone he is supposed to care about I think a certain kind of personality is required... of course, growing up in a certain environment could make this tendancies more or less repressed, or more or less esy to contain.
By all means it might be possible to feel sorry for such a person, an abuser, but my only feelings are to deal with them roughly.
