People are people and you're probably making more out of that that you need to.
I've moved my whole life and can certainly understand what you are going through. The thing I've found is to just do your normal things and explore your new world. Getting started in school will open new doors for relationships. Sometimes working out at a gym or doing some kind of hobby get's you interacting with other people.
We relocated years ago and I had to commute for six months while my kid finished a school. That meant I was only home every other weekend. I actually started working out with two guys at the gym. I met them and their friends and ended up with a bunch of friends before everyone moved. Things just worked out!
Instead of looking at the differences look for what you have in common. Go withthe flow and enjoy each moment. I'm sure it will work out for you. This is a new experience and you're out of your comfort zone, learning to deal with change.
