new town means more adjustments
hey everyone
im kinda new to this forum thing but i guess ill give it a try. i just graduated high school and now im gonna be starting community college in a month. well. this transition is gonna be hard for me but along with that, i just recently moved out of my home town in the bay area and now living here in sacramento CA. so far its been about a week and i find it hard getting used to this place. maybe its my perception but lately, ive been feeling kinda sad and depressed after moving. and now its hard for me to sleep now since all i do is think about stuff that might happen when im here like, "am i gonna make new friends here?" or "if they call me for that job, will it cause stress?". im not sure whats really wrong with me or why i feel down sometimes about the move. but im guessing that i think and worry too much about the people i will meet or if im able to meet new people. and im pretty much shy at approaching people and i find that the people here are hard to talk to due to some differences that im used to. any advice on finding a social life in a new town? |

People are people and you're probably making more out of that that you need to.
I've moved my whole life and can certainly understand what you are going through. The thing I've found is to just do your normal things and explore your new world. Getting started in school will open new doors for relationships. Sometimes working out at a gym or doing some kind of hobby get's you interacting with other people. We relocated years ago and I had to commute for six months while my kid finished a school. That meant I was only home every other weekend. I actually started working out with two guys at the gym. I met them and their friends and ended up with a bunch of friends before everyone moved. Things just worked out! Instead of looking at the differences look for what you have in common. Go withthe flow and enjoy each moment. I'm sure it will work out for you. This is a new experience and you're out of your comfort zone, learning to deal with change.
