I disagree. I would say that in Hollywood, infidelity is usually punished in the end. Characters in Horror movies seal their doom when they do it. Jack dies in Titanic, Just about all of Michael Douglas' characters are put in peril thanks to infidelity of one sort or another. Ang Lee's the Ice Storm is all about the misery of the 70's sexual revolution. Jeff Bridges bashes the head in of the guy who seduces Diane lane in Unfaithful, Annette Benning is left alone in American Beauty...
Okay, these are not terribly recent movies, but I believe the pattern holds in Hollywood: Fornication is for fun, but infidelity is the first step to disaster.
