although ovulation should technically have stopped, hormonal contraceptive also makes it harder for the egg to implant in the walls of the uterus by altering the endometrium. so technically, a fertile egg could be flushed out with the womans normal cycle, however, this is fairly common for fertile eggs to not take hold in the uterus for any other number of reasons.
