I'm sure that part of the reason there's not as much explicit sex is the censors. HOWEVER, to be honest, I think that many directors would balk at showing the more explicit scenes because they detract from the story. In many movies, the love scenes are just that -- LOVE scenes. They're meant to show that the two characters care about each other. The sex isn't meant to arouse -- it's meant as a plot/characterization device. Showing the in and out / cumshot dehumanizes the characters into merely sexual beings. And, besides, it's just not that classy!
But I do agree...there are some cases where the explicit stuff would be awesome to show. A movie about Geishas or something similar would be a perfect vehicle for that.
