I do 24 Hour Fitness because it is closer and there are more of them in this area. It can be confusing for a newbie to know what to do when you get there, other than the treadmill. I purchased a few trainer sessions when I joined so I wouldn't be 'lost' and to get me into a routine. And so they could recommend which machines would work the best for me.
My aunt does Curves. Curves is women only. It is set up like a circuit. You start at the beginning, do x amount of repititions or x amount of time. Then move on to the next spot. You don't have to wander around, wondering what to do next, if you missed any muscles, if you should be doing cardio or weights this time, wait for this machine and that machine to become available.
