Whatever the reason and there could be many outside of herself (I noticed you met at school, so there is likely to be parental input involved) the message she is sending is clear. She doesn't want a close relationship but is okay with an acquaintanceship. Stop embarrassing her by causing her to lie because she is unable to be blunt (for whatever reason). Move on.
In future it may be useful to remember this, once may be accidental, twice maybe coincidental, three times is deliberate.
