I prefer the Mossberg for one reason; the safety. The 870 uses a rifle-style safety in the triggergaurd, Mossberg's guns all have a tang-mounted safety. Thie Mossberg safety is larger and easier to manipulate under stress or while wearing gloves, the former of which is a -huge- advantage in a defensive scenario, the latter equally important to the hunter.
