i got 3 guns and i hate them all i want something with power, i want a good shotgun could anyone give any advice on what would be a good beginners shotgun so i dont kill myself. Ive never shot one in my life, but they look really cool for killing some deer....Any advice??

Both shotguns that I have/use the most are Remington 12 guage shotguns. Best bet would be to go shooting with a friend that has one just to see if you are sure it is something you would be interested in. You can always go with a 20 guage. It also depends on what type of bullet you are wanting to shoot. Buckshot? 3" Magnum? etc...

A shotgun is not an effective long range weapon. If you're in the woods, a shotgun works well for deer hunting. I used a Mossberg 500A 12 guage for a very long time with excellent success.

I enjoy shooting clay pigeons with it, too. I just bought a 7mm-08 for a deer gun, but haven't messed with it, yet. If you want to go for deer, and you're in an open area, don't get a shotgun.

Another vote for the Remington 870 12 guage. If you can find one a Belguim made 3" magnum Browning would be my top choice for deer. The sight picture just works better for me on the old Browning's.

870 is junk, I've had Mossbergs and Remingtons, gave my Remington to my aunt for her to bust clays with.

Remington is really heading downhill IMO, the funny thing is, the problems I've experienced with the 870 are not exclusive to my firearms. My cousin has the same problem, seen a few others on the range too.

I don't share your experience ... then again I have most of my guns worked over before I use them. But let's not revive the old debate.

I'm curious as to what type of problems you've had with your Remington 870. I bought one used recently, but haven't had the chance to shoot it much. Would like to know what kind of problems to look for.

I prefer the Mossberg for one reason; the safety. The 870 uses a rifle-style safety in the triggergaurd, Mossberg's guns all have a tang-mounted safety. Thie Mossberg safety is larger and easier to manipulate under stress or while wearing gloves, the former of which is a -huge- advantage in a defensive scenario, the latter equally important to the hunter.

I'm kinda partial to the Winchesters myself. There's a ton of nice shotguns out there to choose from. Beratta and Browning both make a pretty nice shotgun. For a cheap single shot bush beater it's pretty hard to beat a New England Firearms. Then if you really wanna tie up some cash there is a few more high end imports that you wouldn't want to take out of the case for fear of scratching or marring something. Remington also makes a pretty fair shotgun but they aren't the only boys on the block.
