You guys are missing the most amazing thing about that photo.
See the white smudge in the sky just about dead-center in the photo? That's <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_McNaught">Comet McNaught</a>.
This photo first surfaced as the <a href="http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070205.html">Astronomy Photo of th Day for February 5, 2007</a> .
That photo is actually a three-photo panorama, digitally altered to reduce the red glare from the fireworks. That means that the lightning burst, the firework explosion, and the shutter click didn't actually all happen at the same time, cool though that would have been. Still, it's a very arresting picture, with three remarkable phenomena in the sky.
