Zoom is a great airline to fly with - and they offer larger seats for "a few hundred" more. Air Transat is the other charter out of Vancouver. They fly to a number of European cities and they also offer a semi-upgraded seating for a few hundred. Transat can really discount their seats last minute if you have the nerve to wait - and if they have any left on the flight you want.
Having said all that. I usually fly KLM to Amsterdam and then grab one of the discount carriers there to my final destination. If you are able to book three months plus in advance, you can usually travel between European cities for under $100. I flew London to Malmo Sweden. The airfare before taxes and fees was $3CDN. The taxes and fees brought it up to $40.
