Not that it matters since you are done, But in AI if you click any object using the selection tool, the active layer is automaticically switch to the layer that that object is in, and the object is selected. Also, no matter what tool you are currently using, if you hold the control key down, and the current tool, become the selection tool.

that does NOT work for my copy of AI CS. it was a fucking mess to edit anything. anyways, i'll only use it if I get a job that requires it. for now, Inkscape is extremely good for what i'm creating.
