Parents should never hold any grudges or guilt towards their children for becoming more sucessful than they. When and if I have children, I will do all I can to give them the support and opportunities to become a better person than I. Also, you could be perceiving a guilt from your parents that isn't actually there. One which is created through your own expectations.
I find your debacle's answer to coincide with the words of a very wise man:
