...was it really that hard for them to consult a doctor for this contest? hell, they could've even just google'd it to found out how dangerous this "contest" really was.

sorry, but that's bull. it was THEIR responsibility, not hers, to check up on the dangers of this contest, because they were the ones hosting it. even in eating contests, a physician is always on hand for the safety of the contestants. for them to not even think of consulting a doctor for this was grossly negligent.
read the comments posted on the link i just gave. according to the people in the area, a registered nurse called in to the radio show to inform the hosts that what they were doing was very dangerous. and what was their response? joke about it and invite her on to the show. release form or not, they are at least partially responsible.
