I saw the fight, and thought it was stopped too early. Ortiz actually showed more competitiveness in that round, and caught Liddell with a clean shot (didn't phase him, but it was clean) right before they went to the ground.
Liddell was throwing overhands, but most of them were not hitting Ortiz cleanly. Ortiz was actively moving his arm trying to block, and moved his body in what appeared to be an attempt to stand up simultaneously with the stoppage.
Earlier, Alves absolutely punished DeSouza with harder and cleaner shots for a longer period of time, and that fight was not stopped at that point.
Overall, I think Liddell still would have won. As a fan though, I was disappointed with what I consider a premature stoppage.
