UFC 66: Liddell vs. Ortiz
So...who do you think will win?
I'd say that Liddell is the better striker. It's hard to say who the better wrestler is, since Liddell makes a point to keep his fights standing up - though I'm guessing Ortiz would have the advantage. The problem for Ortiz is that Liddell tends to be very good at stuffing takedown attempts with his sprawl. Also, it's often difficult to "ground and pound" a good striker (and Liddell is an outstanding striker), so how effective can Ortiz be even if he gets Liddell on his back? If I had to bet on this fight, my money would be on Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell.

I believe the only way Ortiz can win (and it's a long shot) is if he is able to slip through a Liddell punch without getting rocked (unlikely) get a good hold on Liddell (unlikely) and then pick him up and slam him (Very unlikely). If Ortiz gets Liddell on the ground, I thinK he knows better than to let him back up. Then it's just elbows to the face until they stop it.
But Ortiz does not take punches to the chin well. Liddell does not get taken down. Bobalou (sp?) is a lot quicker on his feet than Ortiz, and Liddell had no problems at all catching him coming in. However, Liddell is a counterpuncher. If Ortiz can be patient for the first round, I think the crowd will start booing, because Liddell doesn't come forward unless someone makes the first move. Ortiz is a huge underdog, and with good reason. But he can definitely win if he's able to negate Chuck's punching power. My pick is Liddell, though.

Liddell is gonna win, Ortiz had his time but his selfconfidence disappeard since he lost against Couture, I'm almost certain the fight is gonna end in the first round and by knockout, i mean, is the Ice Man we're talking about... In other order of ideas, i've been a huge UFC fan from a long time, but now, and thanks to bittorent, i'm totally sold into PRIDE, i think it's a better league than UFC and i do love the fact that the fighters have more freedoms than in UFC, and i know that Fedor Emelianenko would finish any UFC fighter anytime, that guy is a killing machine, a true gladiator, i'm eager to watch him fight Mirko Crocop again.

Pride > UFC.
Anyways, as far as the OP question, Liddell should win. Ortiz has a lack of confidence and while he's a good wrestler and ground and pound guy; Chuck is a great wrestler. Most people think he's just a striker and they forget how good he is on the ground. IMO, Chuck has the best sprawl in the business which will negate anything Ortiz tries to do. Chuck is alot better at angles of attack and of course is alot heavier handed than Ortiz. I look for the fight to end in the second round via knockout. |

Hahaha, there are enough other sites I go to for MMA news that I don't need the Pride vs. UFC bullshit on my TFP.
![]() I think Chuck is going to win, and I think he will keep winning until that one fight that age and all the abuse of his body catches up with him and he gets caught/rocked by something that wouldn't have gotten him before. And that will be the beginning of the end of his career. That said, I'd love to see Tito win, just for a change. Plus, I sorta like him.

I saw the fight, and thought it was stopped too early. Ortiz actually showed more competitiveness in that round, and caught Liddell with a clean shot (didn't phase him, but it was clean) right before they went to the ground.
Liddell was throwing overhands, but most of them were not hitting Ortiz cleanly. Ortiz was actively moving his arm trying to block, and moved his body in what appeared to be an attempt to stand up simultaneously with the stoppage. Earlier, Alves absolutely punished DeSouza with harder and cleaner shots for a longer period of time, and that fight was not stopped at that point. Overall, I think Liddell still would have won. As a fan though, I was disappointed with what I consider a premature stoppage. |

Liddell is just simply at the top of his game right now. I don't think anyone will beat him except himself. I give him another 4-5 fights over the next year to 2 years and he will start to come back to earth and other fighters will come up to his ability. A great fighter all around.
