I'm not in favor of tanning either. It damages your skin, and for what? There's no shame in being fair/creamy complexion/peaches 'n cream/ etc.
If you go the spray-on route, and you're new to it, be sure to splurge and get a pro to help you out. Do it in advance, get some "practice" in.
