Tanning advice please!
I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding coming up the end of December (the 30th), which means I'm gonna have to bare some more skin than I normally do this time of year :-( I'm planning on going to a local salon to get a tad bronzed so I don't look like Susie Snowflake. Does anyone have advice about how often/how long to tan? Any products I can use to help the process (that are not tan-in-a-bottle type solutions)?
My skin is moderately fair, freckly, and burns somewhat easily. |

Oh my! DON'T go to the tanning salon, you will regret it.
Do a mystic tan, it doesn't permanently mess up your skin. For my prom last spring I wanted to be tanner, so I went to a salon. They put me in there fore 15 minutes, I came out and was amost 2nd degree sunburn. Not to mentioned I was peeling for a week. I'm naturally fair-skinned also. Don't go to a bed. Mystic is the way to go. Or go by some makeup bronzer or a darker tone foundation and have someone help you put it on your exposed skin along with a shiny powder. It will give teh same look without destroying your skin. Good luck! |

I second not going to a tanning salon. Pale is better than having sunburn, tanlines, or eventually cancer. It's a winter wedding so unless you live in a tropical environment it is natural to be untanned.
If you feel you must have a fake tan in the middle of winter, I would suggest bronzing lotions. There are many on the market now, but I can't tell you which ones are good because I haven't used them. If you do decide to go to a tanning salon go a few times for short period of times instead of one time for a while. Let the tan build up to avoid burning. Plus, some people have adverse reactions to tanning beds. Better safe than sorry.

I'm not in favor of tanning either. It damages your skin, and for what? There's no shame in being fair/creamy complexion/peaches 'n cream/ etc.
If you go the spray-on route, and you're new to it, be sure to splurge and get a pro to help you out. Do it in advance, get some "practice" in.

Tanning is alright i guess, i tan about two or three times a week and i have been doing it for about 2 years. I do not use a face tanner though i cover my face to avoid wrinkles. I like the austrilian gold lotions but make sure you stay away from tingle lotion and try the dual or triple bronzers. they work great. start off slow start at 5 minutes a couple times and work your way up DONT go to fast. but good luck

I would second the suggestion to try a bronzing spray. At this time of year... everyone is going to know it's fake if you take it too far and then you'll look potentially out of place in the wedding party.
If you are going for the super tan look, then tan away just saying, bronzing spray add a natural tone to your skin without looking orange, going to a tanning salon may give too much of a tan and not look natural. also... aside from this: tanning causes cancer. the most recent Miss. America has many scars from having skin cancer removed, she's young and only had been tanning for a little over a year... just goes to show how quickly skin cancer can take hold when exposed to harmful rays. PSA: Tanning salons are NOT any safer than sitting under the full sun. good luck with being in the wedding. sp
