I actually agree with the PS2 with your needs and price range. The slimline model is sexy and there is, as Kaliena pointed out, an enormous game library and good graphics. You don't need the snazzy new top of the line stuff. The only thing I would mention is the Gamecube has more party-type games, so if you want to get more than two people involved at once on the system, that might be worth getting the Wii, because it will play Gamecube games and will probably continue that tradition.
