Respectfully, I think you're incorrect here. True, his exact phrase was "We've never
been 'Stay the course'," instead of a statement of mission, as in, "We've never
said, 'Stay the course." But there is nothing inherently divergent about the
character of the two phrases.
Thankfully, however, they appear to be
exploring more options -- which is not to say that I agree or disagree with more options. I simply think it's prudent to consider the full spectrum of problems, which no single plan could account for.
