I'll echo Cynth in that the more involved you get in the community here and join discussions, the more this place opens up, not only in terms of convential 'perks' but also in terms of the community spirit. It's very refreshing and stimulating, and, when you need it, comforting, encouraging, supportive.
One thing I'd say though is that here on the TFP you come across all sorts of topics. And I mean topics that you never thought could even be maturely discussed and from all angles. Sometimes you may find yourself upset by some points of view. Depends on your personality, really. That's just because it's a society in its own right, with people of all ages (except minors) from all walks of life. And therefore, especially with the more hot-button topics, sometimes it may be a mature approach to know when to say your piece and when to walk away.
