(blog style post, but i needed to get this all out)
Here's the thing about modern day electronics and gadgets - many times they're used and customized so much, they become a natural extension of their owners. My PSP, for example, held the music that described my life, the podcasts that informed me, and the photos of all the good times. (oh yeah, the thing plays games too) Needless to say, my PSP was an extension of me.
So I was quite pissed when I discovered at work today that someone had stolen my PSP. I placed the gadget in a cubby hold next to the register; the same place I always put the thing when I work. But this bastard reached over, somehow without us noticing, and took my PSP (and some credit card slips/reciepts aparentally).
After taking out my anger on the bathroom door (my knuckles are bruised and the door barely shuts anymore) I called to the couple of GameStops near ours, and as it turns out, our handy thief, lets call him Smith, had tried to trade in my beloved PSP across the street. He couldn't do so without the charger, so Smith just traded in the copy of Lumines that was inside. In doing so, under trade-in regulations, the store had to collect his personal information. So they had his supposed name, address, and phone number.
When getting this information from them, my manager noticed that Smith had stopped in earlier at MY store. The first name matched, the last name differed, and the phone number differed, however the street address matched.
At this point, I don't know exactly what to do. I'll be calling the local GameStop/EBs tomorrow morning, looking for beloved PSP PP117563436 and her 1gb memory stick duo. I may just call the police, but I have a feeling that would accomplish little... In all honesty I have little hope in recovering my PSP. I just want some sort of justice, let this asshole know that what he has done is wrong.
...
As my friend Eric pointed out, this may be the fire that needs to be lit under my ass. I've increasingly become sick and tired of working at the mall, at GameStop. I'm tired of the ungrateful people. I'm tired of doing good things at work, and not recieving any extra compensation for it. I'm tired of seeing thieves making more money there than me.
I'm expecting a call back from Best Buy within a day or two - and while that may not be a huge jump up from GameStop, it will at least get me out of the mall, and also give me more hours, and more money. If that doesn't work out, the co-op fair at my school comes up Thursday as well. Now I'm sure as hell going to try to get a job or internship there now too.
It's just time for a change.
Now about justice...
Edit: More advice from Eric, it inspires me a bit... remember the
stolen Sidekick story over the summer?
