Today I was treated to a work of historical fantasy! It's called Carnage, and the spammer was Robert Ivey.

Quote:
Tavias sweet solicitude for her welfare touched me deeply.
I have just come from the hall wherehe holds court among his women.
It is madness to think that two of us could leavewithout being detected. Had the hardships that I hadundergone so changed me? What thoughts were passing in that beautiful head?
If such a one exists, I mused, but sheinterrupted my meditation with a question. Next he lowered Tavia to my side, and then he,himself, descended to the ground.
I cannot imagine how you gainedentrance here. If a single ship of Helium is destroyed, I dictated, Tul Axtar dies. I knew what she meant and I took her in my arms. I believe that I have never seen somany women alone together before. Instantly the hatch was raisedand a moment later I had clambered aboard. I gained the summit of the tower without incident. I looked back and saw three figures upon our trail.
A moment later Tul Axtar entered the room, followed by half a dozen ofhis female courtiers.
While my hand can holda sword, you will need no other defense.
The very thought of it filled me withdisgust. I turned and taking one of herlittle hands in mine, I pressed it to my lips. If you care for me even as afriend, you cannot let these beasts take me alive. I have not been ill treated, she replied; no one has paid anyattention to me.
How might one thus burdened have time forthoughts of love? Put your trust in me then and do as Ibid.
Grumbling, he opened one of the keel hatches and very unceremoniouslydropped me through it. We were flying smoothly, slightly above the normal altitude ofbattleships.
He was stalking us asthe wild beast stalks its prey.
I shall landyou in the province of U-Gor! I cannot leave this accursed land behind metoo soon.
Fortunately the ship lay close to the ground andI was not injured.
I could scent the wounded vanity in her tone.
There were at least a half dozen such visible to meat one time.
There was something nasty in the tone of his voice which made hispromise sound more like a threat. There seemed but one explanation, but every fiber of my beingshrank even from considering it. We drew our swords; it was our last stand. No men butTul Axtar are permitted upon this level.
They will meet with a warmwelcome from the great fleet of Tul Axtar.
At every other point thehunting men were ascending.
On and on with relentless persistency the throng swarmed upward towardus.
The ships of Helium are on their way to Jahar.

I did a search and it turned out to be from Chapter 13 of A Fighting Man of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs, published in 1930.
