Agreed, it sounds like he was just looking out for you rather then trying to betray your friendship. He probably recognizes that you are being manipulated and you arn't fixing it. I'd be flattered.
And yes, alcohol doesn't prod you to say things or do things. They are things you WANT to do. You just lose your ability to control yourself, to a point.
