When I planned on being celibate throughout my graduate school career I made those predictions under some very false assumptions based on my limited dating experience with American women.
First off, I didn't think I would ever meet someone who would take an interest in me because I figured I'd be too busy doing research to meet anyone.
Second, I thought that if I met someone who did turn out interested in me she wouldn't stick around because she would feel I spent too much time doing my research and not enough time with her. The sad truth is that my last girlfriend was excessively needy and always picked fights on me over the fact that I spent more time in lab and studying at the library than I did with her---I was a bio major and she was an accounting major---and that the little free time I did have was devoted to extracurricular activities such as the various student organizations in which I was involved before meeting her.
Third, I figured no woman would want to get with me because they'd be scared off by how horny I am. I had been told by various female friends that I give off this very "hungry" vibe towards females and that it's a major turnoff. I therefore figured I would get no opportunities to date or get laid since women would run for the hills as soon as they sensed my horniness from miles away.
Fourth, I had never thought an older woman would ever go for a guy like me because back in my country women don't give a man the time of day unless he's at least 2 years older. A man being with someone 13 years older is unheard of, so it never crossed my mind that I would ever be the Ashton Kutcher to an older woman's Demi Moore.
So yeah, things turned out very differently than I expected but I'm glad because I'm happy with my girlfriend now and she treats me better than any woman ever has before. The only downside is that she has a very low libido to begin with, and the NuvaRing only served to lower it. But then again, being guy that I am I seriously doubt there's any woman on this planet who could match my desire for sex and who could satisfy my apetites in terms of quantity---I want sex for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and for snacks in between whereas my girlfriend would be satisfied with sex just once a week.
