I took a looong break from doing this and never thought I'd get back into it. I thought over time I would lose the technical understanding of how to use the software and second I thought I ran out of ideas. Maybe I have. I named this thread "Tedium" because boredom is what led me back into this, but doing this stuff is actually anything but boring. Looking around at all the amazing stuff - here at TFP and elsewhere - that is being digitally produced is pretty cool. I've noticed that people's motivations for posting their stuff run the gamut from deep, personal, introspective catharsis to simple rest, relaxation and socializing.
This stuff here falls under the category of the latter, as it really always has for me. I'm not mourning the loss of a deceased family member through making this stuff, or paying solemn tribute to my favorite pet hamster, or trying to purge inner demons, I just enjoy the process. This is probably true for most people who do things like this.
The reason I am writing this is because I recently ran across someone's online graphic journal, and for each entry, they wrote out a long explanation for what motivated him/her to create what they did. I found it interesting to read the entries...this person had long, drawn-out explanations for every aspect of every element in his work. This part is there for this reason - this color represents this life experience - this montage is dedicated to a dead relative, on and on. Me - I just put this shit together through trial and error - throw it on the wall and see what sticks. No disrespect to this particular person - I was just amazed at how conscious and deliberate his/her process was.
These pictures are from the 2005 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Quebec. The driver is Jenson Button from England. The large dome - located near the track - was built for the World's Fair back in 19-something or other. The middle background is a shot of spectators in the stands, blurred a bit, and overlayed with some color. I've been to the race 4 times - it's a nice place to see a race, just a few hundred yards from downtown Montreal. One can take the subway right to the track as well, so no worries about parking and being stuck on the island afterwards.
