If you want to go in a direction, I suggest that of "ToxiCity." It's the only one I spent much time on. The rest just reminded me of photoshop filters. Though "Adductus Amarillus" had a cool feel to it.

Thank you troit...a can 'o beans straight out of my cupboard.

Thanks Halx, not really looking to go in one direction or another just doing stuff that comes to mind. BTW, did you find the five "lifeforms" in toxicity?

I took a looong break from doing this and never thought I'd get back into it. I thought over time I would lose the technical understanding of how to use the software and second I thought I ran out of ideas. Maybe I have. I named this thread "Tedium" because boredom is what led me back into this, but doing this stuff is actually anything but boring. Looking around at all the amazing stuff - here at TFP and elsewhere - that is being digitally produced is pretty cool. I've noticed that people's motivations for posting their stuff run the gamut from deep, personal, introspective catharsis to simple rest, relaxation and socializing.

This stuff here falls under the category of the latter, as it really always has for me. I'm not mourning the loss of a deceased family member through making this stuff, or paying solemn tribute to my favorite pet hamster, or trying to purge inner demons, I just enjoy the process. This is probably true for most people who do things like this.

The reason I am writing this is because I recently ran across someone's online graphic journal, and for each entry, they wrote out a long explanation for what motivated him/her to create what they did. I found it interesting to read the entries...this person had long, drawn-out explanations for every aspect of every element in his work. This part is there for this reason - this color represents this life experience - this montage is dedicated to a dead relative, on and on. Me - I just put this shit together through trial and error - throw it on the wall and see what sticks. No disrespect to this particular person - I was just amazed at how conscious and deliberate his/her process was.

These pictures are from the 2005 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Quebec. The driver is Jenson Button from England. The large dome - located near the track - was built for the World's Fair back in 19-something or other. The middle background is a shot of spectators in the stands, blurred a bit, and overlayed with some color. I've been to the race 4 times - it's a nice place to see a race, just a few hundred yards from downtown Montreal. One can take the subway right to the track as well, so no worries about parking and being stuck on the island afterwards.

Thinking about upgrading from Photoshop CS to CS2. Haven't taken a look at the new features yet. Also worried it may run slower than CS. As I am on a Mac G4/400, I'm starting to feel the speed crunch, mostly when I use filters. Another real annoyance with Photoshop in OSX is that you can't mousewheel-scroll through the layer properties to see the different effects. I HATE this. Another annoyance is a lack of an preview picture icon in the Finder when you set .jpg files to always open in Preview app...all I get are the blank, generic JPEG icons. Not cool.

This is my tribute to the insane, belligerent, dwarf-like dictator of North Korea, Kim Jong-il, who has been firing off his rockets again lately. I wonder sometimes what life must be like in North Korea...some posit that the citizens there are perfectly happy and fiercely patriotic of Dear Leader and country, mostly because they are completely and utterly isolated from the rest of intelligent life on the planet. Who knows. This may indeed be the case.

Watching Tv today there was a commercial with the guy that runs "Monster Garage" or whatever that program is...Jesse whatshisname. He builds choppers first and foremost, but he also builds these ridiculously outrageous mechanical contraptions that start out life as cars. So he is over in Iraq to entertain the troop gearheads. He said something that made me laugh: "I'll bet you $100 that an Iraqi car has never pulled a wheelie in the entire history of Iraq."...and I thought, so true. That's about as certain a statement as saying the sun will rise in the sky tomorrow morning. I wonder what passes for fun in Iraq...

And I wondered, are Iraqis really missing out in life? If they could fathom what they are missing...NBA basketball, Formula One, Epcot Center, Typhoon Lagoon, the Metroplitan Museum of Art, the Stage Deli in Manhattan, the joys of Netflix and dual tuner DVRs, Yellowstone National Park, Stony Creek Park, Whistler Mountain British Columbia, cheap, good, plentiful beer, the joys of mountain biking, snowmobiling, skiing, libraries filled with books spanning from the beginning of time, Apple computers, plentiful pornographic material...if they actually experienced what the West has to offer, would they go back to their old-tyme ways. We are truly a sedentary society that loves our leisure time. God bless America dammit.

I'm no warmonger. I don't like hearing about the deaths of civilians - kids, families - anywhere. People want to get on with their daily lives and take care of themselves and their families, but get dragged into these things by extremists. I am feeling somewhat agitated these days in regards to what is happening in the middle east so i tried to put these emotions down in pixels. I hope the carnage ends, sooner rather than later.

No (illegal) drugs for me anymore. Been there done that, still miss it.
Appreciate the compliment...

Had lunch with someone I hadn't seen in a loooong time today. Felt like a human being for the first time in a long time talking to this person. Goddamn do I miss civilized society sometimes.

New monitor yesterday. My first LCD...its ok but its no crt. Nice bright colors, but more fuzzy than I like. My ancient and trusty (8+ years old!) "Apple 20" Multiple CRT Display" was blasting a blue haze across everything. If anyone wants an old, crazy monitor and like the color blue, you can have it free, just pay for shipping hehe. Since the thing weighs about 855 pounds, this should be taken into consideration.

Can one ever run out of good music to listen to? I've been thinking lately: shit, my music collection is pretty old, it's quite varied and diverse...but its old and I've listened to it ad nauseum, so what am I going to do if I never find new music that I like as much as my old music? Is it possible that for the rest of my life I will get no more enjoyment, excitement or inspiration from music??? Have I gotten everything there is to get from every genre of music out there? Scary thought.

Well my problems have been solved, short term anyway. I've hit a rich vein! I downloaded just about every song Boards of Canada has done...some really, really nice songs. Then as I was listening to that, the sites had other groups with weird names and I tried a bunch and they rocked. Rei Harakami is astounding...holy shit. Monolake, Arovane, Tetsu Inoue...good good good. I also got some old favorties: Robby was made with Slayer's "Reign in Blood" on loop with my amped headphones at around 9 1/2....what a kick-ass album heheh. Some love (and some tylenol for the Slayer headache) from the ambient took us home on it.

Missed the annual woodward dream cruise today. All weekend. This would have been sacrilege 3-4 years ago. Getting so oooooold.

Wow, there are a lot of images here I like, particularly Moulin Noir and Whiskey Rain. And Robby.

Tell ya what--give Juno Reactor's "God is God" a try. I love that song, I wish more of their music was like that.
