If it has never been regular and you are pretty young it might - I say might - be that they are not "real" periods, that there's no egg involved. When I got my period I was like that for the first year or two, but it got regular after that. But I've read it's fairly common for it to be crazy-irregular before they become "real".
Have you checked with your mom (or older sister) how her period is like? A lot of the traits run in the family, so if your mom's is irregular like that too then it's probably in your genes. Anyways, if you ever plan on having children you should definitely have it checked out by a doctor.
