Staggering period?
I know there's a few threads abotu this already but, I couldn't really find an answer. My period is pretty off. I'll have it and it will last for about a week, going from heavy to light flow, perfectly normaly, other than the fact that i dont bleed at night after about the second day into my period... but that's not the point. The point is, i'll have it one month, and then i skip and month, and then maybe i'll get it the next month, maybe i'll skip another month. I've missed as many as four and only ever been consecutive twice. Everything about my period is normal. However, like i said, it staggers. I'll have a pretty good clue when i'm going to get it. I'll cramp for a couple days before, get really bitchy and then i'll get it a day or two later. I've asked a couple people about this, my one friend told me to suck it up becuase i was lucky, another told me I was probably just irregular.
My question is.. am i just irregular? Or should i be getting this checked out or something? And will i ever regulate? I do have a fair bit of stress in my life but.. i dont know if theres enough to screw my body up that much. help?

If you have any questions or concerns about your body that is outside of what you read about is "normal" it's never a bad idea to go to a doctor and have it checked... Around age 18, or whenver you become sexually active you should also go have regular checkups with a Gynocologist. (you've got one body, it's up to you to take care of it
I honestly dont think there's any such thing as a normal cycle anymore, age, stress, diet, exercise pretty much anything can cause your cycle to veer off kilter. Especially if you are younger, your cycle can be a little erratic.

If it has never been regular and you are pretty young it might - I say might - be that they are not "real" periods, that there's no egg involved. When I got my period I was like that for the first year or two, but it got regular after that. But I've read it's fairly common for it to be crazy-irregular before they become "real".
Have you checked with your mom (or older sister) how her period is like? A lot of the traits run in the family, so if your mom's is irregular like that too then it's probably in your genes. Anyways, if you ever plan on having children you should definitely have it checked out by a doctor. |

Have you counted the days between? The way you describe it sounds like you have it every other month. If that's the case and it's relatively the same number of days between it shouldn't be anything to worry about. I personally have 26 day cycles. Some people have 28 day cycles and some have longer. You might just be lucky to have much longer cycles for now.
Mal named everything else that would account for an irregular cycle. If you'd prefer to have yours on a monthly basis you could easily get birth control pills. If you are sexually active and not ready for kids then this is a good idea anyway. Plus it keeps us going back for those wonderful yearly exams. My mother was extremely irregular and her periods were long, heavy, and painful. She went on the pill and it shortened her periods, made them less heavy, and helped with the cramping. An irregular period is quite common, just annoying, inconvenient and draining on a girl usually.

Yeah I was thinking of that. My sister is fairly regular and I believe my mother is to, but i've never really thought much of it. I'm never really around either of them, i'm always around my best friend who has problems of her own with her period. I havn't counted the days in between, i was thinking of doing that but then i always forget:S But i'll deffanitly do that now and check things.

Easier than counting. I mark my calender with a small circle that has my first initial inside. I put it discretely in the corner of the day I begin my period. Since I know when my next period will be I'll count and mark the pending day with the same mark. Until I figured out when it was I just simply put a mark on the day I began. It's an easy way of keeping track and nobody else knows what the mark is. The initials thing, was what we started when I lived at home and Mom did the same thing. We didn't get mixed up as to who's mark it was cause our initials were different.
