To get from the South rim or the Grand Canyon to the North Rim, I had to cross part of the Painted Desert which has quite a few interesting rock formations.
I was on the road about 5:00AM and happened to spot this rock formation just as it was lit up by the sunrise.
Northern Arizona is mostly parks, forests and Indian reservations that were very sparsely settled. The driving was mostly thru open landscape with rock formations like this, near Vermillion Cliffs
