I belong to an organization made up of about 98% bikers and mostly middle aged, some past 60(or maybe the wind in their faces for so long just make them look that way, but anyway...), their number one mantra is 'safety'. The best advice, 'ride like you're invisible to the cagers, because most times, you are.'
He was riding the fastest production motorcycle made and without a helmet?? When asked about that before this happened, he remarked he liked the state of PA's lack of helmet laws because it made him 'feel free when riding.' Bet that hospital bed is a real freeing experience...
BTW, his contract, regarding something like this, discourages 'reckless behavior', but does not have specific reference ie; wearing helmets.
