I know of someone who has done it for a few years and really enjoys it, but for most people on that boat the pay is either non-existant or very low. You're fed, you have a bunk, which is considered payment, if you make any money, the hourly wage is well below minimum wage. For experience and networking if you are trying to bust into the field of hospitality, it's not a bad way to go from all indications. If you're looking to make and save a lot of money, it might be a different story.
